How To Successfully Create a Beautiful Autumn Wedding

Photo: Weddingomania.com
With the weather being just right and that warm cozy feeling that begins to sneak up on us at the start of the season, it is no wonder why so many brides choose to have a Fall wedding.  And let's not forget the ohhh so beautiful Fall foliage that will serve as the perfect romantic backdrop for your wedding photos.  With so many vibrant color palettes to choose from, it's going to be hard not to have fun with all of your Fall wedding decor.

Wearing the main color of your wedding on your feet is fun and your guest will love the nontraditional look!

Have a little fun with your attire and let your bridal party in on the fun as well.  Mixed matched bridesmaids dresses are definitely the trend so go ahead, don't hold back.  Explore and have fun with the Fall color palette! If you're sticking with one main color, another fun way to add a pop of color is to mix and match the color of the bridesmaids' shoes.

For an elegant and sophisticated feel, decorations, including flowers and centerpieces should focus on deep oranges, vibrant reds, browns, yellows and purples.  Using apples, pumpkins, and branches in your decor is a nice way to incorporate Fall elements that the beautiful Fall season is associated with.  Here are a few ideas to help you embrace the vibrancy of the warm seasonal colors without turning your wedding into a Halloween party, (of course if that's not the route that you're taking!)

Let's not forget about invitations.  Your invitations will set the tone and feel for your wedding. Considering customized or even DIY invitations will create a more personal touch.  Etsy is always a great place to start if you're considering the customized route.

Things to Know Before Your Bridal Gown Fitting

Since most bridal shops only carry gowns in sample sizes, if you're a petite or plus size bride, it is always a good idea to call ahead and ask if they have smaller or larger sizes.  Knowing ahead of time what sizes are available will prepare you for a much more pleasant experience.  You may need to try on gowns that don't necessarily fit and and you will mostly likely end up purchasing a gown that will require alterations.  That is why for your first fitting, it is essential to know the following:

Alterations:
Alterations are usually a separate fee from the price of the gown.  In some instances, you will be billed based on each individual modification to the gown.  That means that if the sleeves need to be shortened, waist needs to be taken in or the gown needs to be shortened, all of these adjustments will be assessed separately.  A fee may be associated with having to replace any beading around the hem if the gown will be shortened.  And lastly, how many fittings will actually be required.  Other shops charge a flat rate and you can come back as often as you need to until the final product is complete.

Things to Know:
Your first fitting will take place about six weeks prior to your wedding day.  A second fitting will usually take place about 4 weeks prior to your wedding day.  During your final fitting, bring a friend or your mom.  Make sure that your dress flows nicely and that you're comfortable moving in it.  If the gown needs bustling or has complicated straps or buttons, ask the salesperson or seamstress to teach your friend or mom how to handle them so that they are prepared to help you on the day of your wedding.

What to Bring:
Although it is not important to bring your bridal shoes or undergarments to your initial try on, it is essential that you bring these items to your first fitting once your appointment is confirmed.  Your bridal gown assistant will or should I say, "should" advise you of this.  If you plan on wearing a slip or any other hosiery, you should bring these to your fitting along with your bra as well.

Same goes with shoes. Bring the shoes that you will be wearing on your wedding day.  This will ensure that the measurements for the hem are accurate. A small switch or change in the heel height may cause your dress to not fit properly.  The length of your gown should skim the front of the shoes' toe area. A gown that is left too long will wrinkle at the hem and you can end up possibly walking over it.

Decide on your accessories: veils, necklace sets or headpieces. Purchase these items prior to your fitting so that you can see how everything will look together.

Expect to return for at least 3-4 visits if you're ordering a pre-made gown that requires alterations.  For custom made gowns, 1 or 2 fittings will do since the dress will initially be made to the bride's specifications and exact measurements.  Alterations are usually only necessary when weight fluctuations occur or if other custom adjustments will be made.

Custom Wedding Gown for my friend, Alti

I feel both excited and honored to have the privilege of creating a custom tailored gown for a very special friend of mine who was also my kickboxing instructor. My friend Alti gets married this September and I thought it would be fun to share the process that has gone into creating her beautiful and sexy wedding gown.

Alti and I began brainstorming ideas about her wedding gown about 6 months ago. When I first brought up the idea of custom designing her wedding gown, Alti was thrilled. She knew that she wanted something very sexy with a very low cut back and a halter top with lots of support. She was visualizing a wedding dress that was dramatic and that accentuated her beautiful assets but which also remained classy and elegant… and so began my search for ideas. I searched for styles that I figured she’d like based on her body type and style. And just as I anticipated, none of the gowns that I came across incorporated all of the elements that Alti was looking for. Here is when the fun part began...I gathered several images and began drawing up rough sketches mixing and matching bodices of one gown with the skirts of another gown. I was finally able to come up with a design that I thought Alti would like so when I presented the rough illustration to her, I was pleased to know that she absolutely loved it.

I then sent out my pencil drawn idea to my fashion illustrator for her rendition of the proposed design.

I really loved the illustrator's rendition of our idea and I only needed to make a few minor tweeks...I needed the illustration to represent exactly what I had in mind for Alti. I know that Alti isn’t really too fond of a lot of bling so the crystal appliqué on the front of her gown needed an adjustment in size and the bottom of the dress had to illustrate ruffles and from the knee down, the gown needed to be more form fitting... so after a couple minor tweeks, here is the final design of my friends gown...

I can't wait to see the finished product! Be sure to stay tuned as we bring this beautiful and sexy wedding gown to life! ...

Is a Custom Tailored Wedding Gown right for you??

Let me begin by saying that the idea of a having a wedding gown personalized or custom tailored should NOT be confused with the creation of a cheap replica!  I've read so many horror stories online about brides purchasing replicas from Chinese manufacturers based on a stock image only to find out that the replica looked nothing like the image when they received their gown.  This is your big day!  Why would any bride take the risk of not receiving what they ordered, nonetheless your wedding gown!!?  If the price is too good to be true, then it probably is!

While I'm certain that many brides struggle with hefty price tags upon visiting bridal salons and some brides refuse to visit bridal salons altogether because of this idea, you should know that there are several reliable websites and department stores where you can purchase a beautiful gown that is accurately represented on the vendors photos and at times you may find a good deal.  Planning a wedding is stressful enough, you don't need to add the fear of not knowing what the most important item on your wedding list will look like.

I started my online bridal gown business with this in mind.  As a former bride, I struggled with the idea of a hefty price tag.  I knew that I would only be wearing this gown once and no matter how perfect I wanted my gown to be, I had to stick to my budget.  I didn't want to spend thousands and thousands of dollars on a designer gown but I also didn't want to compromise the quality of my gown by ordering a replica.  After I got married, I got to thinking... There must be several brides out there each day experiencing the same frustrations.  Struggling to find their dream gown but one that is not ridiculously over-priced.  Let's not mention that sometimes visiting a bridal salon can be quite intimidating.  That's when it occurred to me that I needed to step in and help brides who were facing the same challenges that I faced as a bride.

A personalized wedding gown is perfect for the bride who is taking the nontraditional approach in shopping for her wedding gown.  She wants to create a personal experience but doesn't want to deal with pushy sales people or be forced to purchase a gown simply because she's used up her alloted appointment time at the bridal salon.  She knows her style and wants something that is personal and which she partook creating.  She wants individual attention without any pressure.  She knows what she wants and she is willing to splurge a bit in order to get her ideal non-designer wedding gown, but not to the point that it will break her bank.  If this sounds like you, then you're an excellent candidate for a custom tailored wedding gown!
